Growth Mindset: Learning from other students

"Sometimes when you run into an obstacle and you get pushed back, you start to forget why you were trying so hard in the first place so it helps to take a step back and imagine your goal."

This is something that will help me tremendously right now. With everything that has gone on in my personal life this year, it can be hard to focus on school even if I have a passion for what I am studying. This semester's classes are difficult and I have not prepared mentally for this semester at all. My college journey has been longer than most because of many major changes, but I am trying to not let the negative thoughts and procrastination set in.

"I think the biggest thing for me is not comparing myself to others. I always do that, and I am not where other people are, but they are not where I am either. We all have our own strengths and sometimes I forget to give credit to my own."

I tend to compare myself to others also. I am older than the majority of my classmates and when they are already getting internships and acing tests, it can be hard to not feel inadequate. Some of my other classmates have jobs already and are looking for other jobs to compete with salary. I am a transfer so it is hard to get in the groove of how fast paced everything is. I will continue to work on both of these learning strategies and mindsets. I just hope I will be able to.

Thanks for the motivation

  1. Oh, I am so glad you did that option! For me, getting to watch everybody's posts go by in both these classes is always so inspiring; I really like the way that in all the ups-and-downs of life, you can always get a boost from someone who is enjoying an up time. Looking at the growth posts, reading people's stories... I always get ideas for new things to try and do when looking at people's posts in the blog stream. :-)

  2. Thank you for sharing this growth mindset Tabi. I reach a point every semester where I feel overwhelmed and it is a good suggestion to just step back and remember why you are doing this in the first place. It is definitely hard not to compare yourself to others. However, I liked how you mentioned that they are not you and have not walked the path you are on. You can't compare yourself to others when you each have had different events and decisions that brought you to this point.
